She attended public schools and graduated from Niles North High School. Afterward, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Marquette University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Madrid. Denyse taught English and translation abroad, and worked in educational publishing for many years. |
Denyse continues to speak out in support of better gun laws. Her passion to reduce gun violence is clear at the many appearances and speaking events in which she participates.

Following the Sandy Hook School shooting in 2012, Denyse founded People for a Safer Society, an Illinois nonprofit organization to fight gun violence. She helped pass landmark gun safety legislation, and was instrumental in stopping the opening of a gun shop and range on Howard Street in Niles, near Niles West High School. |
